As many of you may know, the Michigan Department of Transportation will begin to reconstruct 3.7 miles of M-59 (Hall Road) through Sterling Heights, Utica, and Clinton, Macomb, and Shelby townships as part of their M-59 Improvement Project. The American Land Title Association (“ALTA”) has adopted revisions to the ALTA Commitment for Title Insurance effective August 1, 2016. The previous version of the ALTA Commitment for Title Insurance will be decertified on December 31, 2017. Michigan Law has been brought into modern times through the abolishment of dower rights. Prior to this change in Law, Michigan was the only state which preserved dower for the benefit of women only.
